Information for Referring GPs

 

There’s often a lot of confusion about when to complete a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), how long they last for, when to conduct a review, what MBS items should be used and when, the number of sessions and when to refer.  We have collated the following information based on discussions with Medicare, the Education guide for Better Access and information provided by the Australian Psychological Society.

Under Better Access to Mental Health GPs are able to provide and claim for the production and review of MHTPs and the ongoing management of mental health issues.

Referrals

A MHTP is not a referral and alone is not sufficient for the mental health practitioner to provide the service.
