Our Philosophy

We believe everyone has a unique story with individual strengths and abilities.
We believe in working on solutions rather than focusing on problems.
We believe in listening to you and finding a way forward together.

We are a trauma-informed practice

Trauma-informed therapy focuses on the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of you, your  family and communities. Keeping the possibility our clients may have experienced trauma on our radar means keeping the sensitivities and vulnerabilities of people who may be trauma survivors in mind. It means being respectful, acknowledging and understanding.

We understand trauma can affect our emotions and behaviours and that these feelings and reactions make sense. We will not only listen to your story but help you identify strengths, resilience and how you are currently coping. We will engender a sense of hope that healing and feeling better is possible and give you some strategies for the way forward. We will identify coping mechanisms together many ways to cope that may be better. We work under the five core principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment.

We listen

Our psychologists are genuinely interested in understanding the complexities of your situation. We believe everyone has their own unique story to tell and we will listen with compassion and without judgement.

Our psychologists are trained in several evidence-based therapy approaches, and will work closely with clients to find a therapy style that fits.

Our psychologists want to hear your feedback as it forms an important part of our ongoing professional development.

We want you to feel comfortable

To help you feel at home we have styled our consultation and waiting rooms to be comfortable rather than clinical.

Come early to sit and relax before your session and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. We have information sheets and books available for reading in our waiting room or borrowing.

We are committed to excellence

Our psychologists are committed to excellence in therapeutic practice. Achieving that excellence in practice involves close attention to what is working and what is not working in therapy.

To do this we use a variety of psychometric tests as a measure of the effectiveness of therapy and to help us make decisions about possible courses of treatment that we discuss with clients. This results in better therapeutic outcomes for our clients.

we never stop learning

The psychologists at Bridge Street Psychology feel ongoing education is vital for providing the best care to their clients.

We believe continual professional development is important for maintaining, improving and broadening knowledge, expertise and competence, and to develop the qualities required in psychologist’s professional lives.

To ensure we provide you with the most up-to-date evidence-based care we undergo regular training, and attend workshops and conferences.
